I have been to this pub on a few occasions - spread out over a number of years. It is small and very busy. The food was typical pub-food (fish, chips, and salad were very good the last time I was there). The staff are very busy, and you need patience and consideration for others. They are not set up for having large groups - especially including active kids. It is a place which is ideal for couples or small groups of adults to have a quiet meal whilst being able to have a quiet conversation and a good beer.
Motherhood is a great thing, but not everyone enjoys watching or hearing kiddies playing during their meal - especially in small, enclosed spaces. Kids feet all over seats or other furniture/fittings is un-hygeinic and definitely not "good behaviour". Any quiet or romantic meal would be completely spoilt by kids "just being kids". Many parents seem to think that their kids antics are "cute", but to others forced to be close-by they are just annoying and intrusive. In any case, to my mind, a venue where alcohol is served is not a suitable place for children. If you choose to be a Mum/Dad, please take your off-spring to venues which are set up to entertain kids in an area away from other customers - or get a baby-sitter to look after them at home whilst you enjoy an adult outing.
I hope that staff are able to communicate effectively with clientelle - to point out risky, un-hygeinic, disruptive behaviour, or licensing breaches - without resorting to rudeness. If the "ladies" were rude, do not respond in kind. Just point out that other clients have complained and invite them to leave as soon as possible if the problem does not cease immedieatly. If they behave badly, they just make themselves look ignorant - which will be noted by other patrons. How you handle an awkward situation will determine whether other patrons return another time.
