I contacted Civic Transport to help our florist store deliver flowers over the busy Valentines Day period. The representative came over to our store and he and i both agreed that 2 couriers for the day (8 hours each) should be suffice to complete our deliveries. This was on the provision that each courier could deliver 30 floral arrangements in that time. The representative said that would be no problem and they should be capable of doing a lot more. When the day came all the arrangements were ready at 7:30am to collect. We made it easy for the couriers as we had a run sheet with all the destinations and Melway references to help them go faster. The first courier came on time at 7:30am. He left at approximately 7:50am and was delvering throughout the Northern suburbs. (Yarraville, Meadow heights, Point cook, keilor etc) all deliveries were 5-10 minutes from eachother. He was scheduled to be completed by 1pm at the latest, but did not finish until after 5pm. All day he delivered 14 arrangements. (10 hours) and Civic transport said that i should pay them for the extra hours it took the courier to deliver? The second courier started at 7:30 also, but did not arrive ntil 9:15am, he had difficulty finding the South Melbourne Market? Anyway, this courier managed to deliver 30 arramgements in the CBD area in 10 hours also. I spoke with other courier companies and they claimed that their couriers delivered 50-60 deliveries on the day. I am dissapointed that i specifically asked the representative to send me experienced drivers, i expressed this concern to him several times. To my dissapointment he sent me novice drivers that had only just started out. And when i asked him why he sent us inexperienced drivers his response was "we have to look after our regular customers" that was discrimination i told him. Not only did they not want to negotiate a refund of some sort they wanted to charge me for the time they spent over the allocated 8 hours. I lost thousands of dollars in orders that we could have taken on the day, but could not because the couriers were inexperienced. Not only did the Civic transport representaive agree with me that 14 deliveries all day was not acceptable, but he could not understand why he took so long. Civic transport say that i booked them for 8 hours each and it doesn't conern them how many deliveries are completed in that time, whether it's 1 or 100. I dont see why i should foot the full bill to train these couriers and pay full price for a service that wasn't fulfilled. Regards George Veis
