20 Oct, 2007 - ABUSED BECAUSE TWO PEOPLE DID NOT SHOW UP...
Went to Amici Trattoria (726-728 Burke Rd, Camberwell) and had a horrific experience. Upon arriving at the restaurant a few mintues early, we advised the matradee that a couple had just advised that they could not make it - taking our booking from 8 people to 6. The matradee then launched into a verbal abuse about how we should have advised him beforehand and that how busy his restaurant is. I did advise him that we were prepared to move to a smaller table - which fell on deaf ears. I was getting extremely frustrated at this stage as his verbal abuse continued. In the end, after a verbal stouch, he told my wife and I to "f%^ off" and get out of his restaurant. ALL BECAUSE TWO OF THE SIX PEOPLE COULD NOT ATTEND!!!

I was served John Dory fillets in Amici restaurant in Burke Road Camberwell last night. The fillets had a very strong taste indicating that the fish was not fresh and it was quite unpleasant. My husband asked if the fish was OK as he detected that I was not enjoying my meal. He also tasted the fish and agreed with me that it was an unpleasant strong taste. I called the waitress over and said that the fish tasted strong and it was the worst fish I had ever had. She asked if I would like something else and I orderd a chicken dish. She said it would take at least 20 minutes as they busy. She later came back and said that John Dory is a strong tasting fish - no apology - basically blaming me for not liking it! I should mention that I eat fish alot in restauarants. I felt quite insulted. The chicken came which was OK. Later in the evening one of the owners made some comment , tried to make a joke about the fish and chicken and basically tried to belittle me in front of my friends. I was not amused. My friends were embarrased as they had invited my husband and I out to dinner to try this ''great'' restaurant. George had words with the owner and came back and said that he was sorry and had sent over a bottle of wine. He was not willing to apologise to me.I will not go there again.
I actually felt quite unwelcome when I arrived - I arrived on my own before the others - I was told - you table is over there by the window. No-one showed me to my seat or came near me to offer to open the bottle of wine that I took or even offer water.
