SERIOUS FAULT WITH ARISTON WASHER/DRYER:

Normal amounts of hair on garments being washed were transported via normal washing waste-water through washing drum to machine's inner workings. Hair became lodged around impeller which then would no longer rotate and so machine would no longer function. Pump chamber which is supposed to collect any washing debris and is accessible by consumer was empty (checked by myself and confirmed by service technician).

As such, filters inside machine which should separate normal washing debris from water passing though impeller are inadequate. Machine should allow only water to pass through impeller if it is to maintain normal functioning. As such the machine has a serious design flaw.

Warranty Services Resolution Officer took pains to explain that hair enters machine with garments being washed and that the solution is to clean the pump chamber. When I explained that I had checked the pump chamber and found it was empty she changed her story completely and blamed the problem on me.

Warranty Services Resolution officer did not have technical knowledge and could not provide me with an adequate verbal or diagramatic explanation of the machine. Provided diagrams of different models that did not even show the parts in question.

When I persisted with my complaint, she had National Service Operations Manager call me instead of continuing to handle the complaint herself. National Service Operations Manager said that machine is not capable of washing garments with hair attached without causing a blockage. Acknowledged that filters are not fine enough to prevent hair passing through to impeller. Admitted that it has happened to his own Ariston machine. Claims I must have washed a dog blanket which is untrue (I should be able to do this anyway).

Instructions for Installation and Use and Warranty has nothing to say that machine should not be used to wash garments with hair attached. Page 7 of Instructions has section entitled "How to wash almost anything" and claims to be capable of washing Cashmere Wool (consisting of very fine strands of hair).

At time of purchase seller was advised that we do have pets.

Ariston will no longer discuss this with me and customer service staff have hung up on me despite me being polite and courteous at all times. They refuse to refund my money and want me to pay $99 every time the problem occurs, even though the fault is with their machine.

I paid $1300 for the machine and took out a 48 month extended warranty. The machine is less than 12 months old.
