Hello all at BT
Where do I start, around the end of March 2011 I thought I would save money and include an extra package i.e. BT vision, so I bravely cancelled my trusted provider and ordered package one BT internet (10 GB usage per month) BT any time UK calls and International calls plus BT vision Gold.
Now BT set the delivery date for the 8th April, this being the cut off date and installation date with BT.
Realising these dates given would be totally inconvenient and very costly I phoned BT several times to forward the date, this was set for the delivery and connection on the 6th April. So Like a trusting idiot I waited all day until 5.30 pm realising the delivery was not to be. I phoned BT only to be told “ Oh no Mr L your equipment will be with you tomorrow the 7th April. On the 7th am. having been let down I phoned BT to get reassurance that my delivery would be on the 7th, “ No Mr L, your order has been cancelled” in total disbelief I put the phone down, having cooled off a bit I phoned 30 minutes later and queried the cancellation, “Mr L your order has not been cancelled it will be with you some time on the 8th of April and you should be connected on the 9th April. I am now almost losing the plot.
Having stayed in for four days at a great deal of cost and frustration my equipment arrived on the 8th April.
This is the smallest part of my horror story, the best is yet to come. I am capable of building computers and I am no fool when it comes to setting up a audio system, but there was no way I could set up the BT vision, having regained some sort of composure with BT I phoned for advice, 3 phone calls later and being talked through the set up BT managed to do what I had done ! Nothing , so I was told that I would get a call from an engineer to make an appointment 38 hours later the engineer phoned and sensibly asked me what I had done, he made some suggestions and asked me to phone back if I was not successful, his suggestions were not of any use so I phoned back, guess what, “ yes I was told to wait another 48 hours for an engineer to phone me and make an appointment.. 30 hours later, I had to pop round to the shop for milk, in fear of missing a call I hurried and returned home in 5 minutes flat, guess what, there was a message on my phone to say that the engineer had called, would I phone back on the number left, I phoned this number and Guess what, the man at the other end said that I should receive a call from an engineer in the next 48 hours. Becoming a hermit by now waiting in for BT I finally spoke to the engineer and made the appointment.
No this is not the end of my first ten days with BT, yesterday the 17th April late pm I received an email saying that I had used 7 GB of my 10 GB quota of internet usage, this usage is for general browsing and checking emails wow said my previous provider, “ you must have been downloading a lot of data to use that much in 9 days, my friends said “ BT saw you coming” . On the next day am. I phoned BT and quizzed them on there claim, but being BT they stuck to their story and tried to make it convincing that I was some sort of internet downloading freak, and by the Way Mr L your internet usage is now 8.35 GB, so guess what I had used 1.35 GB internet while i slept ??????.
So here is the true reason for a so called too much internet usage, you are almost forced into the package 2 at an extra cost.
So having moved to BT because I believed all the hype, I am now paying £18 a month for 40 GB of internet usage when my previous provider charged me £14-20 for unlimited usage, I have a Gold BT vision system that after 10 days is still not being used at a cost of £12-50. Oh and here is the best bit yet, BT has a cooling off period as all good companies do, i.e. usually you have up to 14 days to experience your purchase, and if not happy you are within your rights to cancel, This applies to normal companies, Not BT, your cooling off period with BT is before you experience the goods, so you must guess/imagine if you are going to enjoy the service, once you receive your goods and are connected there is no turning back. GOD HELP ME. My previous provider has promised they will take me back when this 18 months of costly bad experience will be over.
To further the BT saga, a BT engineer did arrive on time and on the correct day ( wow), it transpires that the two BT power plugs supplied were not compatible with each other, anyway there clever engineer got everything up and running, "Oh he said, I will pre-adjust your BT vision box to accept a HDMI cable, this meant that I was left with letter box viewing ( not full screen ) on the assurance that when I purchase an additional HDMI cable and connect it I will have full screen HDMI viewing, " great I said" and duly went out and purchased a very expensive cable.
Well guess what! yes it did not work, so another 3-4 phone calls to BT again I eventually spoke to an English speaking Indian ( they all are with BT) so straining to break through the strong accent I manage to get the BT vision box and My TV free view working with the exclusion of the HDMI cable.
So I now have a HDMI ready TV being fed BY an HDMI ready BT vision box giving me non HDMI viewing, all this after waiting 11 days for BT to come round and cock things up
For the 3 weeks that I have been with BT I have noticed a slump in my broadband viewing speed, On phoning BT they said that my download speed was 8MB PS, So being a normal BT user, I did not believe them and performed seven individual tests from different web sites, the Lowest test was 3.75MB PS and the highest being 6.2MB PS, ok here's the funny bit, the answer by BT to the drop in speed is because I did the tests in the peak period, so I asked the knowledgeable person from BT "what are the peak periods you mention", " from morning to late evening " Yes< so when I replied saying that I can expect a slow broadband use all day, the person cut me off ??????????????????
Yours.
a very unhappy BT user.
