Citibank (Victoria, Australia)

My husband and I both applied for a balance transfer of a credit card to Citibank.
A week after I applied I saw a TV offer that was better suited to our circumstances so called to ask how I was able to change from one credit card to another, I was told that the verification team needed to be advised that I wanted the card canceled and was transferred, I advised of what I needed done and asked if I was able to cancel my husbands application as well, to which I was told that this was not possible he would need to call, I advised that he worked from 5am - 6pm 5 days a week and was not able to call during the hours that the verification team were there. To this I was advised that it was not a problem if they cannot contact him then his application would be cancelled.
I asked if this would cause a problem with him reapplying and was told no it would not. I was promised a callback that night so we could go ahead with the 2nd application.
2 days later I had still not heard from them so called them back, I was originally told that as the verification team had still not cancelled "my" 1st application then i could not apply for the other card.
I advised that this was not what I was told, the lady called the person that I spoke to on Monday and when she came back she said that it was OK my husband and I were able to reapply.

I went through the whole process and when I was finished put my husband on the phone, he was also told that he could not apply, I spoke to the girl again who continued to use the exact same phrases every time she spoke, in the end I spoke to a manager who advised me that he could send off verification to the validation team to cancel my husbands application but there was no guarantee that either of the new applications would be approved.
After 58 minutes on the phone I asked for both our applications to be cancelled and was advised that was not a problem they will do that (Funny they couldn't do that for the 1st application but could once we cracked it with them.)
When the verification team called me to request some further information I asked for the address to send the information to which she started to give me the fax number. I had to say 3 times "Excuse me, but I need the address, not the fax number", she eventually gave me the address.
After the shocking service we received in trying to apply I figured it was better not to even bother, it would have just caused us major headaches if we had of joined up with them.
Out of all the banks that I have dealt with, they had to be the worst.
You know the funny thing, when I asked for their names the replies that I got was "Brown" and "Smith", as if !!!

I recently received information from a membership benefits program about a credit card that I could apply for which was at a low interest rate. Having this credit card would temporarily allow me access to funds so that I could finish completing my house renovations. I completed the application and forwarded my details noting on the application form that whilst I have submitted my last business tax return it was not a true reflection of my current financial position since I had been through a financially difficult 12 months prior and had since made changes that had significantly impacted on my financial status. Three times I contacted Citibank to find out about my application and to ensure that they would take into account my financial changes. Three times I was assured they would. A month later I finally received a letter of rejection. When I telephoned Citibank to find out what happened they explained that my financials did not reflect that I could pay back the funds. I again explained my situation however they were not interested and said that the decision had been made. I complained to the membership benefits provider and nothing has been heard since except that Citibank keep sending me out application letters to apply for credit cards of which I know they will not approve.
