The short version: Domayne stuffed us around and made no effort to make it up to us - never returned calls, or came through with ANY promises. The long version: Address: --- ----------- --- Macarthur ACT 2904 Thursday 4th November 2004 Alex Lobko – Manager, Furniture Domayne 80 Collie St Fyshwick, ACT 2609 Dear Alex, I am writing to you to express my disappointment in the trouble that my partner and I have had in dealing with the staff at Domayne in reference to the purchase of our Perseo Lounge Suite, and the Bridal Registry that was arranged to pay for it. Earlier this year, my partner and I went into the Fyshwick Domayne store hoping to set up a Bridal Registry for our wedding in October 2004. In the past we frequently shopped at Domayne, and it is a store that we had always enjoyed visiting. We went to Homewares to arrange the Bridal Registry and then walked around the store looking at things to put on our list. We became interested in the Perseo lounge suite, which was on sale for “$2499, (Stock Only).” Jacqueline organised for the red Perseo lounge suite to be brought down to the store from the warehouse so that we could see it. Upon seeing it we decided to go ahead and put it on our Bridal Registry. We put a deposit on it under the understanding that our wedding guests could contribute to the payment of it as part of the Bridal Registry. We also decided to order the Lily Leather Care Protection Cover. The following Wednesday, while reading The Chronicle, I saw an advertisement that Domayne had placed for the leather Perseo Lounge Suite. The advertised sale price was $1999. I rang Domayne the following day and spoke to George. I explained to him that I had paid a deposit on the same Lounge Suite four days before, and could we have it at the new sale price. George told me that I was mistaken – that the lounge suite that was advertised in The Chronicle was a different one – it was not entirely leather, it had a vinyl backing on it. He told me that the Perseo lounge that we had purchased was full leather and was on order from the manufacturer. I knew that this was not true, I told him that we had seen the exact lounge suite when we were in the store - Jacqueline brought it to us personally, and I didn’t understand why he was lying to me. Eventually, after more denial from George, he said that we would be given the Perseo for the sale price of $1999. He also said he would send us an amended invoice in the mail. To date, I have not received any invoices in the mail from Domayne. The next contact I had with Domayne was on the 25th September 2004 when I rang to check the balance of the lounge suite. Again I asked for an invoice with the $1999 price to be sent to us. We did not receive one. On Thursday the 30th September 2004 Kent went to Domayne to pick the lounge suite up. He paid the remaining money owing on it, and brought it home. We excitedly unveiled the suite and discovered that the two-seater was missing its legs. Kent rang Domayne and was told someone would call us back. You called Kent back and left a message with a number to contact him on. I tried to call you back but you were not available. Each time I called and explained the situation, I was told that someone would call back. No one did, but eventually I called and spoke to someone (who didn’t give their name) and was told the legs had to be ordered from the manufacturer as no one could locate them in the warehouse. Again I was told that someone would call us back, this time to tell us when the legs arrived so we could pick them up. I asked her to arrange someone to bring them to our home, and to fit them onto the lounge for us. I asked this because we had checked the base of the lounge and it wasn’t clear how to assemble it ourselves. The following 5 weeks consisted of several phone calls by me asking where the legs were. Kent and I also went into the store on a couple of occasions, because we had b
