Elizabethan Village Pub (Western Australia, Australia)

I have been to this pub on a few occasions - spread out over a number of years. It is small and very busy. The food was typical pub-food (fish, chips, and salad were very good the last time I was there). The staff are very busy, and you need patience and consideration for others. They are not set up for having large groups - especially including active kids. It is a place which is ideal for couples or small groups of adults to have a quiet meal whilst being able to have a quiet conversation and a good beer.

Motherhood is a great thing, but not everyone enjoys watching or hearing kiddies playing during their meal - especially in small, enclosed spaces. Kids feet all over seats or other furniture/fittings is un-hygeinic and definitely not "good behaviour". Any quiet or romantic meal would be completely spoilt by kids "just being kids". Many parents seem to think that their kids antics are "cute", but to others forced to be close-by they are just annoying and intrusive. In any case, to my mind, a venue where alcohol is served is not a suitable place for children. If you choose to be a Mum/Dad, please take your off-spring to venues which are set up to entertain kids in an area away from other customers - or get a baby-sitter to look after them at home whilst you enjoy an adult outing.

I hope that staff are able to communicate effectively with clientelle - to point out risky, un-hygeinic, disruptive behaviour, or licensing breaches - without resorting to rudeness. If the "ladies" were rude, do not respond in kind. Just point out that other clients have complained and invite them to leave as soon as possible if the problem does not cease immedieatly. If they behave badly, they just make themselves look ignorant - which will be noted by other patrons. How you handle an awkward situation will determine whether other patrons return another time.

Hi, My name is Lynn I would like to let everyone know about the way we were treated at The Elizabethan Village by the owner himself!!! The "no children policy " the owner/manager would like to impose on his diners at the Elizabethan Village is Archaic. The same as the pub itself!!! I am a stay at home Mum and I went for lunch at the Village with my 2 year old and my almost 4 year old and a few other mum's and children from the kindy we attend. We are all very proud of how well behaved our children were and they were being very quiet ie; not screaming and yelling and running around the restaurant like wild animals like I have seen other Mothers allow their children do. They were checking out the bugs at the bay window. my 2 year old was jumping off the ledge (not even a foot high ) sorry stepping off the window this 2 yr oldcan't jump with both feet together and the waitress politely asked us to keep the kids off so whilst holding my friends 3 week old baby and saying goodbye to one of the other mum's I was telling my 2 year old to get off the window if he didn't get off the window I would have to put him in his pram and he got off and we walked back to our table The Owner then piped up and said "You have to keep your kid's seated and keep them quiet." Thinking he meant it in a good natured way I said "Yeah right have you got any duck tape." ha ha he said "you will keep your children seated and you will keep them quiet." I said "come off it mate!!! You haven't got any no children aloud signs up." he said "there will be soon." and I said "well we won't be back." and he said "GOOD!"

Is this allowed?? Can he be so blatantly anti children in this day and age?? And I would like to know why he quite happily stuck his hand out and took all the money for the food and drink from 9 women 6 of whom had 9 children with them when they ordered!!!! I can't believe it. I cannot stress enough how good the kids were I would understand if they were running amock but they were not!

This man made myself and the other ladies feel like we were not welcome because of our children!! I have been to this pub on three other occasions without my children and have had no problems.

Lynn Mad Mother of three telling the world about the pathetic little man that owns the Elizabethan Village Pub.
