THE EMERALD HOTEL CAFÉ A group of us had been holding breakfasts at the Emerald Café for several months. One morning we asked for cappuccino as usual, and were told by the café manager that we couldn’t have it because the cappuccino machine wasn’t used until 11.00 a.m. We expressed surprise that there had been a change in policy, and the manager proceeded to tell us that there had been no change in policy, as it had never been available before 11 a.m., and was in fact in a locked room until then. We politely informed her that we had been coming here every month for six months, and had been having cappuccino each time, upon which she told us that that couldn’t be right, as it is never available before 11, and as she had been here for five months, she would know. We were pretty flabbergasted by this attitude, and remonstrated, at which she told us yet again that we must be wrong, and walked off. Needless to say, we don’t use that venue any more!
