QLDRoller Shutters (Sumner, Australian Capital Territory, Australia)

Recently I bought roller shutters for my front windows and back veranda. The shutters in the back were supposed to be for security but also cat friendly e.g. (cats should be able to access the house even when the shutters are closed). Now I’m finding I have to leave one of the shutters open for the cats to come through, so where is the security? A big luring feature was made of how nice it would be for the cats to be able to come and go and I would also have security.
.But as soon as the contract was signed all the little luring promises, such as cat flaps, a bit of sealant on my leaking veranda roof, were conveniently forgotten. Thousands of dollars later and I’m no better off security wise. I’m extremely sorry I became entangled. I have learned firsthand the risks elderly people, especially women, take when they allow themselves to become involved, too hastily, in my type of situation.

Contract signed Friday 19/8/2011@ 12.30pm

At 9am, Monday morning 21st the consultant for QLD Roller Shutters insisted that I agreed to have my roller shutters installed Tuesday 22nd I can’t remember making this arrangement so I asked for a later date in order to give myself time to consider the details, but I was told by him that he had already arranged everything and other involved people would be disadvantaged as a result and I could possibly lose my deposit.

Queensland Roller Shutters Deals do not include electrical works

I was unable to find an electrician in that limited time so I accepted one the consultant had recommended, he said he was “a very nice man”
On the morning of the 22nd the electrician arrived at 7:15am accompanied by two apprentices (who were also members of his family). 5 hours later they completed their job.
I paid $80 hourly for the electrician +GST, $45 hourly for senior apprentice + GST, $35 hourly for junior apprentice. +GST. Materials used cost me $123+GST. So do you think I was ripped off or am I just a winger? I had no idea the 2 apprentices were included in the deal.

Moral of my story: read every detail of a contract carefully before you sign it, if one is not presented (as in my case) demand it. Before you employ someone for a job get a written quote first; that way you are not at their mercy later on.
