I purchased a floor rug on 13/05/07 for my daughter to put her 4 month old baby on. She rang me two days ago to say that the threadswere coming loose from the rug, and she was worried that the baby might swallow them. Today, (22/05/07), we returned the rug to the Fountain Gate store. I still have the receipt. The male sales assistant was very abrupt and rude. He said that the rug was dirty, (it is slightly soiled from the baby), and was dirty underneath, (yes, because it was laid on a wooden floor). I pointed out that the rug WAS a floor rug, but would expect that threads would not be pulling out from the backing after one week's use. He replied that the rug was second hand ( well yes, after I had payed for it), and that he would not refund any money. The female assistant ran her hand over it and pointed out that the pile was fluffing badly and should not do that. He said that it was acrylic, not wool, and that would happen. Pity he didn't point that out when I bought it. He just said at the time that it was a good rug, reduced from $299 down to $129, and was good value. Where can I go from here?
