The positive things about the resort were the proximity to the Disney Parks, the space in the 2 bedroom villa and pool areas. The housekeeping staff and front desk staff were very pleasant and accommodating.
The negative experience that would make me very hesitant about staying at the resort in Orlando again was the vacation ownership breakfast experience. I explained to Mike, the employee who discussed the presentation with me, that we were not interested in purchasing. Mike replied by stating that it was just an informal meeting, that it would only take 90 minutes and that it was fine if we just wanted to get additional information. He stated that the Starwood Hotel Group had a reputation to uphold and so it would be a positive experience.
My sister and I went to the vacation ownership breakfast presentation and had a poor experience with Dominique. The first portion of the presentation was fine and we were able to get some very good information on how the points work and what the vacation options were with Starwood Hotels. We explained that we were just there for information and were not going to purchase anything that day. Dominique became condescending and borderline rude. He stated that we were in essence wasting his time because the whole point was to purchase. He went as far as to say that Las Vegas was built by losers wasting their money and asked if we wanted to continue to be losers. I understand high pressure sales; however, it’s never good to make the potential client feel like they are dealing with a cheap car salesman who is trying to bully them into buying something they already indicated they weren’t interested in purchasing. I explained that there must be a disconnect in rationale between the people at the desk who were booking people for the presentation and the people actually giving the presentation. Based on what we were told by Mike it was completely okay if we just wanted to get information; however, Dominique had a different opinion.
I advised him after 90 minutes that we had fulfilled our time obligation and had children back in the room that we had to get back to so we were going to leave. He said that actually we had to be there for 10 more minutes. We were at the breakfast on time (10:00 am) but were not introduced to him until 10:10 so he said that we had to stay in order to get the discounts that Mike had offered. It was extremely awkward and we were both very uncomfortable. After he finished another 10 minutes of his presentation we were checked out by Barbara which took another 30 minutes or so. She was very kind; however, she was the one filling out the guest survey for us and was circling answers before we could explain what we really thought of the presentation; thus, we were not able to provide our honest feedback.
I wish I could take back the negative experience I had at the vacation ownership presentation. I’ve heard it said that it takes seven positive experiences to overcome one negative experience.
