I purchased a recliner a month ago and brought it home. I noticed that it had a very characteristic smell. The smell was like a skunky odor. I figured that it would air out with time. It has been over 4 weeks and it has not improved. Has this been a problem in the past? Is there a solution to the problem?

I purchased a recliner from their store using a check (BIG MISTAKE!!) and after taking it home and using it for a couple of days found it to be extremely uncomfortable. I returned the recliner to the store and tried to find something else, but they didn't have anything to my liking. I asked for a refund and was told that their corporate office would have to write me a check because they don't keep any cash in their store at all. Two days after I'd made the return, which would now be 6 days after I'd purchased the chair with my check, I received a call from the store telling me I would have to wait 10 business days to get my money back because I'd written a check!!! They told me it would take this long for my check to clear the bank. Really - where is it in this day and age that a check doesn't clear the bank within TWO days!! Well, of course, the check I wrote to them had already cleared my bank. So now they had their merchandise and my $403!! I called their corporate office and demanded my money back, and explained that they already had their money. I spoke with "Mark" who's in charge of doing their refunds. His response was, "Well, that's our policy and there's nothing I can do to change policy." My response to him was, "Ok, so I'll walk into your store and pick out a couch and take it home and I'll tell your sales people, 'You'll have your money in 10 days', how does that work for you?" He said, "It wouldn't." I told him that their policy didn't work for me either!!! But he was totally unwilling to do anything! DO NOT DO BUSINESS WITH SLUMERLAND FURNITURE. FIRST, THEY'RE OVERPRICED, SECOND THE QUALITY OF THEIR MERCHANDISE IS INFERIOR, AND FINALLY, THEIR CUSTOMER SERVICE SUCKS!!!!!!! I WAS NEVER MADE AWARE OF THEIR RIDICULOUS CHECK POLICY OR I WOULD SIMPLY HAVE USED MY DEBIT CARD AND AVOIDED THIS WHOLE HASSLE! I SHOULD DEMAND 10 DAYS WORTH OF INTEREST, TOO!!!
