I received an interim rates bill in October even though I had sold the property at the beginning of August. Not wishing to pay rates for a property that I no longer had any interest in, I telephoned the Council to let them know. I was told not to pay the rates bill (really, am I that stupid that I would pay a rates bill for a property I no longer had any interest in) and to disregard the notice. A couple of weeks later, I received another rates bill, this time 3 times more expensive, so I telephoned the council again. Again I was told not to pay the rates bill but this time it was explained to me that there was a pro-rata payment required as I owned the property from July to the beginning of August. I didn't understand because I thought this had all been taken care of when I paid the first instalment for the financial year and finalised at settlement. I was spoken to like I was a complete idiot as I probed to gain a greater understanding. I do not know what to expect next....what do you think it will be....another rates notice or a Final Demand....stay tuned
