Thirteen Steps ( Victoria, Australia)

2006-06-12

Situated in Ocean Grove on the Balerine Peninsula the Thirteen Steps Restaurant looked like a great place to enjoy a relaxing meal with five good friends on the Queens Birthday weekend boy were we mistaken. After ringing to confirm our booking (we had left a message earlier that day) we were asked to come a bit later as they were busy which we gladly did. (The restaurant was only half full when we arrived) When we arrived and were seated the waitress asked what drinks we wanted we replied just water for now we would order alcohol later. Not impressed the waitress left and the owner brought back the water. We asked for the menus as we were quite hungry to which he replied"so sorry to make you wait" and walked off. We all wanted entree for main as we were going to order dessert again the waitress looked very unimpressed. All other tables were receiving constant service but 45 mins later no one had returned to our table once, at which time we called over a waitress and asked how much longer our meals would be and if we had done something to offend them she looked at us and walked off. 5 mins later she returned to tell us our meals would be another 15 mins at which time we said not to worry and left. The way we were treated was very uncalled for and we are still baffled as to what we had done to deserve this treatment. After talking to some of the other business owners in the town we were told that the owner is a very arrogant man who the week earlier had pushed a female customer down the stairs, the mind boggles.
