Tiger Airlines ( Victoria, Australia)

2010-12-21

Our flight from Adelaide to Sydney was cancelled and was forced to spend a night in Melbourne. Ground staff told us they will reimburse our accommodation and I have just spoken to the call centre staff saying they will not reimburse us. Planning to seek legal action.

I have booked Tickets from Singapore to Chennai (date of journey 21 December (Ref: QGREAG booked on 15 May), However had to postponed the flight to 22nd December (changed on 14th July) as my connecting flight from Darwin to Singapore was postponed by tiger airways. (Ticket details and email (AFLRBA) saying that flight from Darwin to Singapore was postponed due to operational changes). I tried to convince to customer service that it was due to thierr operational changes, but couldn’t succeed. I was forced to pay the difference on phone otherwise I will loose my flight and fares from Singapore to Chennai. Again Tiger cancelled all his flights from Darwin Airport from 25th October; I have to forfeit Jet star return ticket from Melbourne to Darwin on 21st Dec and returning back on 27th Jan, due to cancellation of thier flights. I requested them to give a return ticket from Melbourne to Perth as it is extra charges which are incurred on me due to thierr flight cancellation. As per the Australian consumer forum and Tribunal “The financial loses beared by the consumer’s are the responsibility of the company “. They were least bothered and I have to buy a return tickets from Mel to perth through tiger airways. According to Tiger fare condition( Flight Cancellations And Schedule Changes) "In the the event that your Tiger Airways flight is cancelled we will reschedule you on the next available Tiger Airways flight, free of charge." Tiger has decided to cancel the all flights in furture from darwin airport so no rescheduling is not possible from darwin,so passengers travelling from darwin are entitled to claim compensation. Again according to Tiger (Flight Cancellations And Schedule Changes in website)"Tiger Airways does not compensate, reimburse or provide tickets for travel on other airlines and takes no responsibility whatsoever should a cancellation cause you to miss a connection to another flight" I am not sure becuase those who are flying to reach darwin from diffrent airlines to catch tiger airways to reach Singapore what happened to them "isTiger is not entitled to pay their fares as they are not missing their connection flight but original flight of Tiger airlines". Tiger must be made to pay for misleading and causing troubles to Passsengers for their wrong doing.Tiger advertises cheaper fares that doesn't mean that it will not be up to the expectation of people, People are paying them according to the fares they have demanded but later if thing goes wrong they cry that are budget and cannot meet people expectation. Customers must be protected for ill treated on this airlines. With regards Pradeep chandak

Melbourne-Hobart-Melbourne Im 165cm tall and 65Kg so im fine on Tiger but if you are any taller or wider just forget it. My friend is 185 and 105 Kg and he couldnt fit in the seat (no help from Tiger). On the way back we were 40secs late as in we tried to book in 44mins and 20secs (not 45mins) and they wouldnt let us on. I have since tried to complain repeatedly (just being run around with answer machines) to no avail. All in all if your short skinny and poor iks ok but apart from that dont bother.

My friend and I had booked a trip to melbourne 3 months ago on tiger. We arrived at the airport 2 hours before the flight was due to even be open for checkin (as they advised on the itinerary) and the flight had been changed to 2.5 hours earlier! There was no-one on the checkin desk or anywhere in the entire airport that we could speak to so we ran to the boarding gate to see if we could still get on as it was still finalising boarding and we were told no sorry, the paper work has been done. There is nothing that we can do for you. We were told by several members of staff that every other day they get very angry customers in the same boat. We were forced to purchase tickets on virgin and thankfully they still had cheaper seats left. One customer was forced to spend an additional $700 on their flights. Tiger claims to send out 3 emails with changes to the itinerary but we received no such emails. This again is not unusual as it turns out. When something seems too good to be true it usually is. I will never fly tiger or any other budget airline again.

8 Reasons why I would avoid flying with Tiger Airlines: When you book your flight with Tiger Airlines via the Internet there are several traps that could cost you a lot of extra money (maybe more than your flight costs!) 1. When booking online it is not clearly stated that the max luggage limit is 15 Kg, and that the additional kg’s are charged at $11 per Kg. (others allow 20kg) 2. If you do not have enough cash to pay at the check in counter for your excess luggage, you will be charged an additional $5.00 for using your credit card. 3. Booking online you will pay an additional $5.00 convenience fee for this service of using no one. 4. Most other airlines will give you the option to choose your seat. Tiger Airlines will charge you $5.00 - $8.00 for doing this at time of booking online. 5. Refreshments are an additional cost to you the traveller, so for a coffee, biscuit and juice you would pay almost $10.00. 6. Recently flying from Newcastle to Melbourne I found the cabin to be very untidy with lots of rubbish on the floor and in the seat pockets. The toilet sink would not drain, and was also untidy.(this was an almost new plane). 7. Surprises do not stop there though, when you arrive at Melbourne Tullamarine airport you have to walk 450 metres on the tarmac to baggage collection in a shed, with metal rotating doors to exit (like you are leaving the swimming pool) which looked difficult for a lot of the passengers, especially some with kids or a disabled couple. 8. Next thing if you need to go to the main terminal it is another 400 metres walk. So after this experience I would think it is certainly a budget experience but with many pitfalls and in the end you could pay more than flying with Qantas.
